my concerns in "break in" lie with how much oil and how fast new parts are going to absorb. Once fluid levels maintain and other everyday driving issues (leaks, whatever) are labeled and fixed. Change the oil and let it rip. That's on my engines. I know them and how they're done. 500 miles is an err on the side of caution but it never hurts. These things cost alot of money so why rush to waste it. Just mail me a check for $5k and bend over your hood. I'll kick you in the balls and it'll hurt just the same.
You can never be too careful. The longer you take to break in the more you know that any variables have stabilized.
